CNC Foot Orthotic Milling

Course Description:

This course introduces design applications and operation of computer numerical control machine mills utilized for to foot orthotic mold fabrication. Topics include an introduction to CNC milling, foot orthotic mold design application overview, an introduction to GCODE, CNC mill materials, setup and operation and a post-processing overview.

Course Objective:

The objective of this course is to provide the learner with an overview of foot orthotic design applications, as well as to provide the learner with in depth knowledge of both the setup and operation of computer numerical control machine mills utilized for to foot orthotic mold fabrication.

Day One (8 hours):

8:00 – 8:15          Introductions and Course Overview

8:15 – 8:30          Tour lab and discuss lab safety

8:30 – 10:00        Lab: Demonstrate sample milling job

10:00 – 12:00     Discuss CNC milling concepts

12:00 – 1:00        Lunch

1:00 – 2:00          Demonstrate foot orthotic scanning

3:00 – 5:00          Demonstrate foot orthotic design applications

 

Day Two (8 hours):

8:00 – 10:00       Lab: Design functional mold in foot orthotic design application

10:00 – 11:00     Demonstrate CAM application

11:00 – 11:30     Lab: Setup CAM application

11:30 – 12:00     Lab: Operate mill to create functional foot orthotic mold

12:00 – 1:00       Lunch

1:00 – 2:00          Discuss CNC mill types

2:00 – 3:00          Discuss basic GCODE concepts

3:00 – 4:00          Discuss foot orthotic mold and material choices

4:00 – 5:00          Discuss post-processing

 

Day Three (8 hours):

8:00 – 10:00       Lab: Design accommodative mold in foot orthotic design application

10:00 – 11:00     Discuss CNC mill setup

11:00 – 11:15     Lab: Setup CNC Mill

11:15 - 11:30      Discuss CNC mill operation

11:30 – 12:00     Lab: Operate mill to create accommodative foot orthotic mold

12:00 – 1:00       Lunch

1:00 – 2:30          Lab: Design accommodative foot orthotic in foot orthotic design application

2:30 – 3:30          Lab: Setup CAM and CNC Mill

3:30 – 5:00          Lab: Operate mill to create accommodative foot orthotic

 

Total Class time:  24 hours

 

Cost:  $750.00

Runs 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for 3 days.  Lunch is included in tuition price.

Approved for 24 Category I Scientific CE points with BOC for all participants and with ABC for the following disciplines:  Pedorthists, Orthotists, Orthotic Assistants, and Orthotic Technicians.
