PRIVATE PEDORTHIC CLASSES:

Are you interested in having a private Pedorthic class at your location?  We have several options for you!  If you are located in Zone 1 or Zone 2, you have a choice of either utilizing our Mobile Lab (Pedorthics on the Move) or having us bring our equipment to set up at your location (Pedorthics in a Box).  If you are located in Zone 3, we can bring our equipment (Pedorthics in a Box) and set up at your location.

MOBILE LAB:

Our Mobile Lab (Pedorthics on the Move) is a converted BlueBird diesel Handy Bus. It is 26’ long and fits in a back-to-back parking space with plenty of room to spare. Back-to-back parking spots are typically 36’ to 40’ long. Spaces with a curb stop or signage will not work.

The Mobile Lab carries its own 45-gallon freshwater tank, but it travels empty to conserve weight and fuel. It will need access to a fresh water source via a garden hose. The grey water is collected in a 20-gallon tank on wheels where the solids from the plaster settle. The grey water needs to be emptied daily and the plaster solids disposed of separately in a trash receptacle. No plaster will go down the drain!

The Mobile Lab can generate its own electricity in two ways. It has a 5500-watt quiet inverter generator to generate power for the three dual head grinders / dust collection system or the 1500-watt double oven and two vacuum pumps / frames alternately. It also has 1200 watts of flexible solar panels on the roof and 330-amp hour storage batteries powering a 4400-watt inverter. This is used to power cast saws and other miscellaneous power tools on board. It would like access to a single 120 VAC extension cord in case it’s a cloudy day.

The Mobile Lab has a big screen TV mounted above the front cockpit for lectures with seating for four students in traditional bus seats, and two more students in the aisle on stools. There is a mobile hotspot used by the Mobile Lab and it is available to students on a limited basis.

The Mobile Lab carries a trash bin on wheels that handles all student fabrication refuse. It will need to be emptied daily into a nearby dumpster.

The Mobile Lab carries a popup canopy for use as a classroom outside on nice days. This is deployed when needed. If there is a space in your facility that we can use for gait analysis, we will use it.

The Mobile Lab has Carrier air conditioners both fore and aft to cool on hot days, and a heater midships to warm on cool days.

The Mobile Lab has a functional wheelchair lift (800 lb limit) that can be used for students if needed. The bus has ADA compliant 40” aisles and multiple emergency exits. It carries fire extinguishers both fore and aft.

Finally, the Mobile Lab will need a nearby restroom for student and instructor use.

PEDORTHICS IN A BOX:

Our Pedorthics in a Box consists of a 12’ by 6’ cargo trailer pulled by a rather large SUV. The rig is about 35’ long and fits in a back-to-back pull through parking space. Back-to-back parking spots are typically 36’ to 40’ long. Spaces with a curb stop or signage will not work.

Pedorthics in a Box consists of six modules on locking casters. Each module is approximately 2’ wide by 4’ long and varies in height with function. Each module is moved into your workspace. Each module is then attached to the next to form a workspace island. Each module has its own power or water requirements.

There are three dual head Grinder / Dust Collection modules. Two modules can be run on a single 20-amp circuit.

There is one double Vacuum / Oven module. This module can be run on a single 20-amp circuit.

There is one Saw / Sewing Machine module. This module can be run on a single 20-amp circuit.

There is one Wet module. This module is totally self-contained but requires water filling from a hose or bucket, a trash bin for emptying solids and a place to dump greywater without solids. No plaster will go into the drain.

In addition, Pedorthics in a Box carries an eight-foot folding table and seven folding chairs. This space will be used for lectures, modifications and assembly.

To have us set up our equipment at your location, your location must have an adequate and dedicated space for all our equipment and room for 6 students to work comfortably.  The lab space must either be on ground level or have elevator access. There will need to be access to the building with no steps.

Steampunk Bionics will supply all hand tools, materials, workbooks, and instructor.

CLASS SIZE:

Required class size is 6 students.  We will come to your location for a minimum of 4 students, but you must allow us to sell the remaining seats to other students not associated with your practice.  If you book all 6 seats, the class will exclusively be your staff.
